June 24, 2008 - Richmond, VA- The Savage Foundation is proud to announce the awarding of three grants so up-and-coming high school students could improve their class standing though summer school. "The students who are the recipients of these grants were identified by school officials as those who made dramatic improvements in academics despite some incredible obstacles," said Rich Savage, Executive Director.
The students, all of whom attend Armstrong High School in Richmond, VA, come from some of the most impoverished areas of the city. In one situation, one student had doubled her GPA from the previous year. "When students in less-than-ideal home situations make the effort and get the results, it is critical that we do whatever we can to provide the support they need to make themselves better people. We are all better off in the long run," said Savage.
